Charco Azul Trail

Charco Azul (Download for free here)

Starting a trip to a place following references, a green signal, a red house, may not be highly recommended, but you can still get to places that really cannot believe they exist in the state of Durango, as Charco Azul within the limits of the municipalities of Canatlán and Nuevo Ideal.

Well imagine what it means t a "pond", we thought we would come to a small water hole and it was pleasantly surprised to contemplate the small dam that is in this place, which is called "Charco Azul" and retains its water from the flow of water through the canyons of this area.

The good news for the walk was a good day for hiking, Cloudy, pleasantly warm with the possibility of rain, bad news for landscape photography, the overcast sky could impede taking good pictures
We were sitting on large rocks in the middle of a small river, watching a tiny waterfall falling into a pond and water, looking the exit among the rocks forming a kind of rapids until the flow was hidden under a huge rock fully covering the river bed.

Charco Azul
We were looking out of the water stream, we surrounded the big rock and we found a natural rock slide, where the water fell to retake the course of the river, in the midst of a typical nature of the forest, to draw attention Was the large stones that lay on the bed of of river, and the trunks crossed the river, where we note that in the rainy season this placid river becomes a violent and noisy river.

On the trail we were covering each step, we could see the mountain flowers, fungi and as far as traces of the level of water can rise, we could not see much wildlife, was a cloudy day, the threat of rain, only cows, chewing the grass and setting its gaze at us as we passed.

Continuing our journey, we reached the exit of our small valley, to encounter the exit of another canyon and the rivers gathered there to begin with a single channel of water, we explore a little the output of the canyon to our right, searching for a cave, but found nothing, so we decided to go back to the course of river and follow the road with the signal of the cliff that was in front of us.

Charco Azul
We went to a very flower field, the sun began to rise, and we to feel it, you could felt the moisture evaporate from the floor, still wet from the rain of last night, can be dangerous, to walk without seeing your shoes covered with grass, more on land where the rattlesnake has its habitat, and finally we reached the shore of the river, because we noticed that there was a deviation in the stream.

Getting the GPS, we could decide more surely on the direction to follow, only bad thing was that this time, crossing the river the water came up half of the knees and the water a bit cooler than normal; and we continue walked along the trail of livestock, the cow path, always takes you somewhere.

Something when you walk into a place you've never traveled, is that you are aware of everything, your senses are alert, your adrenaline goes up, the finger on the trigger of the camera is ready, we began to see in the distance, the water was beginning to be retained and the landscape even in a cloudy day, had its beauty in its own way is when you start working a bit in the quest for that picture, and fulfill what you want.

Charco Azul

The end of the road was a small climb a bit out of context, after walking flat, up, and with fatigue, tiredness and hunger, it is not proper to end a great day of hiking along the river that ends in the Charco Azul dam.

Bon Voyage!!
